The economic situation is slowing down the agricultural machinery market at a global level, but the EIMA exhibition, which ended yesterday evening in Bologna, suffered no setbacks and hit an all-time high attendance record. Over 346,000 attendees, including 63,000 foreign guests from 150 countries, came to learn about the most innovative technologies for every type of agriculture. The demand for mechanization remains potentially very high – explain the organizers of FederUnacoma – and the agricultural world needs to immediately recognize the innovations and plan its investments accordingly.

EIMA International set a new record and closed the 2024 event with 346,800 attendees, of which 63,100 were foreign guests from 150 different countries. The data is proof that the Bologna agricultural machinery exhibition is a true international reference event, and has paid off nicely for the 1,750 exhibiting industries that chose EIMA to showcase their range of new products and future “concepts”. Over 60,000 models of vehicles, equipment and components – from tractors to combine harvesters, from soil processing equipment to treatment and harvesting machines, from forestry equipment to gardening and greenery maintenance equipment – were on display before a crowd of economic operators, farmers, contractors and technicians, as well as students and enthusiasts.
The spotlight was on robots, drones, digital technologies and artificial intelligence systems that represent the new frontier of agromechanics, and which are already capable of responding to the challenges of food security, environmental sustainability and climate change. “At EIMA we welcomed visitors from all over the world,” explains Mariateresa Maschio, President of FederUnacoma, the Italian federation of manufacturers that organized the exhibition, “and we tried to analyze the evolution of demand in the traditional markets of Europe and America, in the emerging markets of India and China, and in the newly mechanized markets of Southeast Asia and Africa.” “Every region of the world has different agricultural models – adds the President of FederUnacoma – and the task of the agromechanical industry is to offer tailor-made solutions”.

“Our exhibition took place during a difficult time for the market, which is affected by the unfavorable economic situation, uncertainty on international markets and the transition to a new incentive system – said Simona Rapastella, General Manager of FederUnacoma – and yet the exhibition saw no crisis and had an extraordinary outcome”. “Anyone who works in agriculture knows that new technologies are indispensable – she added – and that it is necessary to get to see them up close and plan investments accordingly and, in short, to get to the heart of the ‘innovation factory’ and become active participants”.
At the 46th EIMA International exhibition of agricultural machinery, the Tractor of The Year 2025 awards were awarded by a jury of operators and journalists in the sector. Here are the winners in each category.
The contest saw 25 tractors compete in six categories including technological innovation, sustainability, design, digitalization and comfort. The vehicles were built by manufacturers from all over the world, from the USA to Europe, and represent the new era of agricultural mechanics. A jury made up of operators and specialized journalists from various countries evaluated all performance displays in terms of ergonomics, comfort, power and technology.
The competition, sponsored by the magazine Trattori, has now become a must-see event at the EIMA International agricultural machinery fair. The contest ended with an extremely crowded winner announcement and award ceremony. The winner of the top category Tractor of the Year for high power was the Case IH Quadratc 715 model, while the Fendt 620 Vario DP won in the medium power range. The Steyr 4120 Plus won the award for best utility tractor in the 70-150 horsepower range with a maximum operating weight of 9,000 kilograms and a maximum of 4 cylinders.
All the lights were on specialized tractors for vineyards and orchards with the best of specialized category, which saw the success of the Venetian manufacturer Antonio Carraro with its Tony 8900 TRG. One of the big novelties of TOTY 2025 was the TotYBot award given to the most innovative robotic models. The overall winner in this category was the AgXeed 5.115T2 model. Finally, a place was found for sustainability with the Sustainable TOTY award given to another Fendt model e107 Vario. On stage, the members of the jury took turns proclaiming the winners, and the ceremony was interspersed with the screening of videos showing off the performances of the competition’s winning tractors.
The Italian Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers Federation, formed in 2012 to replace Unacoma (the Italian Farm Machinery Manufacturers Association set up in 1945), brings together, and represents in Italy and abroad, the associations of Italian manufacturers of digital systems and technologies for agricultural machinery and farmer (Agridigital), irrigation systems (Assoidrotech), implements (Assomao), self-propelled machines (Assomase), tractors (Assotrattori), components (Comacomp) and gardening machinery (Comagarden).
FederUnacoma is a member of Confindustria (the National Manufacturers Federation), and in Europe CEMA (European Committee of Agricultural Machinery Manufacturer Associations), EGMF (European Garden Machinery Industry Federation) and Euromot (European Association of Internal Combustion Engines).
FederUnacoma activities are aimed at providing incentives for agricultural mechanization, activities in the energy sector, public and private groundskeeping, promoting the development technological development of the inventory of mechanical machinery and equipment of reference in Italy and abroad and providing association members with support focused on assistance and innovative services.
FederUnacoma’s associates account for 80% of Italian production, with exports accounting for 65% of this production.
