Aquamat Water Solutions: Implementing containerised water treatment plants across Africa.
Since 1968, Aquamat has been at the forefront of delivering innovative water management solutions by leveraging the latest advancements in technology and raw materials. Our unrivalled practices have been used to execute complex water treatment challenges in over 30 African countries.
The Concern:
Water is the source of life and so many people are deprived of clean, safe drinking water. It is one of the largest global risks in terms of potential impact over the next decade. Manifested by the increasing world population, expansion of irrigated agriculture, plus a sharp rise in global freshwater demand driven by industry. With less than 2.5% of earth freshwater being accessible to the world’s population, humanity is facing a water crisis.
This is our call to action! By creating a holistic water management approach that takes into account the entire water cycle: from source to distribution, economic use, treatment, reuse and return to the environment. All criteria are taken into consideration to facilitate the best solution to the challenge at hand.
The Opportunity:
Decentralised water treatment plants can change the lives of many as they allow easy, clean and safe access to life-saving water. Implementing a containerised treatment plant is the perfect solution to mitigate water supply and quality concerns without the huge capital investment required for a traditional water treatment plant.
For example, imagine the relief in a rural community where people, schools and clinics are deprived of clean, safe drinking water. Aquamat’s water treatment plants can be put anywhere, even next to a dam or river to purify water quickly and effectively providing clean water to thousands of people. These plants are completely flexible as they can be integrated with existing purification plants to increase the volume of clean drinking water needed to meet the demand.
Other industries and applications for Aquamat Water Solutions products:
- MINING
It has become mandatory to have water treatment processes in place to ensure minimal damage to the environment by recycling process water for reuse applications.
- INDUSTRIAL
The manufacturing, production and processing industries rely heavily on consistent quality of water to protect the integrity of capital equipment such as cooling towers, boilers and heat exchangers.
- FARMING & AGRICULTURE
Dissolved ions and contaminants cause serious challenges in water, removing these is essential for providing livestock with healthy drinking water as well as ensuring crops are irrigated with quality water allowing healthy plant growth.
The AQUAMASTER manufactured by Aquamat has contributed hugely towards improved crops for vegetable, grain, fruit and nut farming as well as other stakeholders in the agricultural industry. The AQUAMASTER provides deeper ground penetration while reducing water usage by up to 30%. Prevents irrigation systems from scale build-up and corrosion. Improves the uptake of nutrients and allows for better fungicide, insecticide or herbicide coverage to its target.

Aquamat Water Solutions Success Story:
The Cape Town water crisis in South Africa was a period of severe water shortages in the Western Cape region. The Stellenbosch Municipality initiated an emergency augmentation program in 2018 to secure alternative water sources during the draught.
Aquamat Water Solutions delivered a 1.4MLD (60 000L/hr) containerised borehole water treatment plant for direct distribution into the Stellenbosch Municipal supply grid. Treated water met SANS 241 drinking standards over the 2 year operations period.
