AgriEdge Services

AgriEdge can deliver the following services to contracting parties such as funders, governments, industries, companies (CSR) etc. Services are focused on the following three target areas:

1. Specialised Agri training and technology transfer

AgriEdge members are experienced with extensive knowledge and qualifications in the complete agriculture value chain. Our large network of associate specialist trainers enables us to develop and execute suitable holistic training programmes for new and established Agri role players.

Trainees are primarily within the farmworker, subsistence farmer and emerging farmer levels and training vary from basic agriculture training to specialised Agri support topics – such as plant pathology, entomology, nematology, horticulture, soil science, crop protection etc. Good agriculture practice (GAP) protocols and post-harvest programmes are also offered. Depending on the target trainee group, curricula and training programmes are developed and implemented according to the needs and current development level of the target group. Special emphasis is placed on the role of trainees within the larger Agri value chain and the impact their work and knowledge have on successful export programmes for locally produced fresh produce.

Training programmes are accredited according to a specific training quality standard and trainees will receive an appropriate acknowledgement (certificates) after completing the training programme.

2. Agribusiness project management

An extensive need to facilitate and lead new Agri role players from a position of entering an agribusiness (such as primary production units, small farmers, etc.) to a point where they become self-sustainable and successful contributors to the economy, currently exists within agriculture in Africa.

AgriEdge facilitates primary production as well as processing projects. It focuses on assessing and facilitating the process for these role players to develop a realistic business plan with marketable products and management practices – with relevant training and skills development in place – to give them the best opportunity to achieve success as entrepreneurs in business.

Project management is done, involving appropriate partners and mentors, with an emphasis on good business principles in agribusiness.

Co-ordinate supply of certfied plant propagating material
AgriEdge is in a position to co-ordinate the identification, sourcing and providing of suitable plant propagating material for agri projects – according to a business plan/project scope.

3. Market access

AgriEdge is in a position to deliver market access and industry enabling services with regards to regulatory aspects for speciality/minor crops such as pomegranates, persimmons, figs, vegetables, etc.

AgriEdge has the expertise to facilitate projects on market access:

• Specialist services regarding SPS (sanitary and phytosanitary) matters related to international trade of Agri products and plant propagating material.
• Food safety-related issues and registration of chemical remedies.
• Food quality issues – trade-related

Market access functions include supplying and developing technical information; a compilation of phytosanitary information packages; developing of quality standards; developing of databases, surveys, related research and development projects; and representation on relevant national and international forums.

We do International liaison on these aspects with a special focus on African countries.

Besides strategic partnerships and associations with a wide range of entities relevant to the Agri product value chain, such as universities, agricultural research council, Agri service businesses, exporters, ftPPO’s and international networks, AgriEdge has sound specialised expertise available within its structure on various aspects related to agriculture and Agri development. Special contributions can be made to the organised agriculture sector and governments on the following aspects:

AgriEdge on Developing new Agri crops

Includes assessing the potential of local indigenous spp. – also providing suitable propagating material, initiating of pilot production units as well as maintenance of production units with support in production practices, monitoring systems and scientific evaluation of results.

Project management and grant funding

AgriEdge can manage grants and funding allocated to specialised projects and monitor and report on progress and success.

Extensive networking links throughout the value chain

From production and processing (including training, mentoring, etc.) to marketing, export and sales.

R&D Services
