WHO WE ARE
Southern Cross Industries (Pty) Ltd first set foot on African soil as the Southern Cross Windmill and Engine Co. Back then, its regulatory head office and factory, Southern Cross Organisation, was based in Toowoomba, Queensland Australia. The initial idea was to distribute Australian manufactured products in South Africa. In the 1950’s Southern Cross radically transformed, by establishing a manufacturing facility in Bloemfontein. Today, Southern Cross Industries (South Africa) and the various originating Australian companies, have no corporate relationships other than commercial ties.

On 1 December 2011, a leading Bloemfontein entrepreneur, Kobus Knoetze, acquired Southern Cross Industries. Kobus and his team boast a diverse product portfolio, including Southern Cross Agriculture, Southern Cross Garden Care, and Southern Cross Foundry. Backed by years of engineering expertise, Southern Cross Industries is your preferred partner towards a solid, green future!

SOUTHERN CROSS BRIEF HISTORY
Southern Cross industries (PTY) Ltd commenced business as the “Southern Cross Windmill and Engine Co” during 1939 in the then union of South Africa. then it was effectively controlled by the southern cross organisation with its headquarters and factory in Toowoomba Queensland, Australia. The purpose of opening the South African operation was for it to distribute products manufactured in Australia. The situation changed and Southern Cross Industries (South Africa) and the various Australian companies forming wat was the Southern Cross Organisation of earlier years have no corporate relationship other than commercial ties.

Southern Cross underwent a radical transformation in the 1950’s with the building of its own manufacturing facility in Bloemfontein.

On 1 December 2011, Southern Cross was acquired by Kobus Knoetze, a leading businessman in Bloemfontein. Now known as Bloemfontein Metal Merchants trading as Southern Cross Industries, Kobus and his excellent management team and competent employees, still has a diversified product portfolio and demand continues for traditional water pumping products due to their economy of use and ecological friendliness.

Windmills were one of the first products manufactured by Southern Cross. Skills and knowledge accumulated over nearly 110 years, inspired improvements in design and manufacturing. This continuous quest for excellence positioned Southern Cross as the undisputed windmill leader globally.
The demand continues for traditional water pumping products due to their economy of use and ecological friendliness.
This is the reason why we are successfully expanding further into African countries. Our product is built in Africa for African conditions. We are proud of the recent project of 100 complete Windmills successfully erected in Nigeria.
