Columbus Stainless, founded in 1966, is Africa’s only producer of stainless steel sheet, coil, plate and strip. Amongst others, we produce grade 430, 304, 316 and 2304 stainless steel, from 0.5 mm gauge through to 40 mm. We also developed a corrosion resisting steel called 3CR12.

Our stainless steel is used by most industries in the world, due to its superior protection against corrosion and elegant finish. It is used by household equipment manufacturers for producing cookware and sinks. Architects specify stainless steel for handrails, balustrades and building facades, for the reduced maintenance requirements and longer product life. The transport industry uses our steel in road tanks and support structures, as its strength and corrosion protection allows for reduced tare weight whilst increasing payloads capabilities. The food production industry uses stainless steel in processing equipment, storage tanks, and catering equipment, for its protection against contamination and ease of cleaning. The mining industry uses stainless steel for its robust strength and resistance to corrosion, extending product life and reducing down time. The agriculture industry is finding greater use for our materials in livestock farming, with roof sheeting, railings, and fertilizer tanks, preventing premature product failure and unnecessary replacement costs.

We were the innovators of 3CR12 – corrosion resisting steel that has successfully been used in the mining sector for walkways, conveyor systems bogies and coal wagons. Wherever there is wet abrasion, 3CR12 is the preferred material.

Our mill is situated in Middelburg, South Africa. We have a modern, efficient stainless steel production facility that supplies manufacturing industries around the world.
